Java -- Strings Question?

I have to make a program that lets a user put in a word, and the program tells the user how many vowels that word has. If the data entered includes characters that aren't letters, it'll verify the user that there is an error. Also, it converts the cases to proper format (capital in the front). Any idea where to start?
