Which is more valuable, white or yellow gold?

I heard that the difference is that white gold jewelry is an alloy of gold and white metals and yellow gold jewelry is an alloy of gold and other similar-colord metal. Is this true? And if so, is the gold that is mixed with white metals regular yellow gold? Per ounce are the same karat jewelry worth the same amount whether they are yellow or white?
