Can someone please explain the logic behind home ownership?

There's no logic in renting whatsoever. Buying a house is an investment and the prices will go back up. I would never rent a house, and when you're renting, all you're doing is paying off someone elses mortgage for them. You're obviously happy with doing that but I'm not :D Plus when you retire are you putting enough money aside to pay rent for 20+ years and living expenses?
