What purpose do you think poetry serves?

Many purposes. It reminds us to 'stop and stare'- It expresses thoughts and ideas that would never be expressed othewise-Occasionally the sheer beauty of words alone is enough to take one's breath away. I'm sure there are many more purposes, else why would it be so popular?
