How do I make sure a gunshot wound doesnt get infected?

I got shot in the hip in a drive by shooting but I don't have any insurance. If I go to the hospital I won't be able to pay the costs and i will forever be in debt. I have it wrapped up and put iodine on it. What else can i do to make sure it heals properly?
